Love Food & The Best Bliss Balls On The Planet
Hand on heart, these are the best bliss balls on the planet and they are created by the supremely talented and inspirational sister act of Verena and Angelika from Love Food.
Love Food is an awesome company that delivers super fresh and nutritious meals and snacks to your work or home, and I was lucky enough to speak to both women about their food philosophy and approach to living a positive, healthy life. BB xxx
What inspired you to start your business?
My sister and I have always loved food and healthy eating and over the years we have held countless dinner parties and healthy lunches that were admired in the office. When our Father was diagnosed with Cancer, our research found that an alkaline diet was the best option for keeping the body in it's healthiest possible state; so we founded Love Food and now help many people keep a healthy, alkaline diet where they also lose weight too.
What do you love most about your job?
I thoroughly enjoy producing food that is healthy, hearty and tasty which we genuinely make with love, but the best thing is helping people and changing their lives. One of our clients was positive that after trying for quite some time to get pregnant, she not only felt healthier and had more energy on Love Food but also fell pregnant after being with us for six months. She is now the happy mother of a beautiful little boy and is still on her Love Food journey.
What is your favourite dish to make?
I couldn't say there was just one, but our favourite dishes come mostly from our travels (I have a soft spot for Spanish food - the freshness & flavours of good tapas) & our heritage (Greek - it's amazing what you can do with olive oil & lemon!)
What three ingredients could you not live without?
We start or end most dishes with a splash of extra virgin olive oil (from Spain as I think it has the best flavour), that's an absolute essential ingredient you will always find in our pantry. We also add fresh herbs to give a further dimension to a dish, so that would have to be number two and number three would be Himalayan salt - just a pinch brings out the natural favours of fresh produce.
Who do you find inspirational?
There are so many clean foodies that we follow on Instagram that are happy to share their tips & recipes….I think it's our generation's way of passing on years of home cooking experience. Also, I find both Matt Moran and Rick Stein inspirational because they are both down-to-earth chefs that use local and seasonal produce and put together dishes that can often be simple layers but offer the perfect taste profile due to their attention to detail that just works.
Can you share a recipe with us?
We always take bliss balls to parties because they not only taste delicious but are a guilt-free treat, made from fruit and nuts. Oh, and they are sugar-free, wheat-free, dairy-free and egg-free! Beware that some shop bought balls do contain sugar, palm fat and coco butter so always look at the ingredients as they can be labelled as 'healthy' which is a little misleading. Of course, you can make your own with our recipe below, it literally takes no more than 10 minutes and they are delicious, but most importantly you know exactly what is in them!
Love Food Bliss Balls
1 cup medjool dates (pitted)
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1/2 cup cashews or pistachios or pecans
1/3 cup raw cacao powder
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
Pinch Himalayan sea salt
1 tablespoon chia gel (mix 2 teaspoon chia seeds with 2 tablespoon water to form a gel)
The Love Food Method
Step 1- Put all the ingredients into a food processer & pulse for 3-5 minutes. Blend until you have a nice dough consistency.
Step 2- Roll the balls in shredded coconut to coat & refrigerate. The bliss balls will last for 1-2 weeks when stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
